Aims

This thesis will investigate the energy from waste technology available focusing on;

·         Methane Gas Recovery
·         Bio-ethanol Production
·         Incineration

A comparison of the municipal waste disposal strategies from the city of Edinburgh with other regions of Scotland will be made and the possible applications of technology to the Edinburgh waste scheme will be discussed. It is our aim to highlight improvements to the current waste strategy of specific councils and courses of action that would be of benefit economically, socially and environmentally.

Objectives

·     Complete research into current waste flow patterns for the selected sites by interview with appropriate council members and gathering of required data.

·     Obtain sufficient information concerning the technologies under investigation allowing an in-depth life cycle cost benefit analysis comparison between the technologies.

·
An optimum solution for the city of Edinburgh municipal waste disposal strategy will be developed following analysis of the technologies and consideration of practical implementation.
